These muffins are mega-chocolatey. And that chocolate richness complements the banana flavor perfectly - together they are very balanced and delicious. In addition, the bananas make the crumb of the muffins moist and juicy.

And I can say that they can be a great base for cupcakes - with chocolate, caramel or vanilla buttercream.

As with almost all banana baked goods, the bananas should be well ripe, you can even use overripe ones - they are more flavorful.

These muffins are very easy and quick to make - even a novice baker can manage them.

Recipe:

Place the bananas in a bowl and mash with a masher or fork.

Add the melted butter, egg, sugar, salt and vanilla. Stir until smooth.

Sift the flour with the cocoa, baking soda and baking powder. Add to banana mixture to make batter.

Pour into greased muffin tins (no need to grease if using paper liners). Sprinkle with chopped chocolate or chocolate chips.

Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for about 25 minutes. When done, a toothpick should come out almost dry in the muffins.

Let cool and serve.
